The Pool Installation Process: From Dig to Fill

At DCP Pools & Patios, we understand that installing a pool is a significant investment and a major transformation for your outdoor space. To ensure you know what to expect, we’ve outlined the entire installation process, from the initial dig to the final fill. Our goal is to make the journey as smooth and transparent as possible, so you can look forward to enjoying your new pool with confidence.

The pool installation process is a journey, but one that ends in a beautiful, custom-designed pool that perfectly fits your lifestyle. At DCP Pools & Patios, we’re with you every step of the way, ensuring a smooth process and an exceptional final result.

1. Site Preparation and Excavation

The installation process begins with careful site preparation. Our team will mark the exact location of your pool, taking into account your design preferences and any existing structures. Once everything is set, we start the excavation process, where we dig out the area to the precise depth and shape of your new pool. This is an exciting first step, as you’ll start to see the outline of your pool take shape in your backyard.

2. Forming & Steel Reinforcement

After the excavation, we move on to the forming and steel reinforcement stage. We create the pool’s framework using wooden forms and install steel rebar to reinforce the structure. This steel framework adds strength and durability, ensuring your pool can withstand the test of time. The plumbing lines are also installed at this stage, setting up the necessary infrastructure for water circulation, filtration, and any additional features like waterfalls or jets.

3. Gunite Application

With the steel framework in place, we apply gunite to form the actual shell of your pool. This is a crucial step where the pool’s walls and floor are constructed using a high-strength concrete mix. Once applied, the gunite is carefully smoothed and shaped to ensure a seamless finish. After this, the shell needs time to cure, typically a week or two, to reach its full strength.

4. Tile and Coping Installation

Once the pool shell has cured, we proceed with the installation of tile and coping. The tile is applied along the waterline, adding both beauty and functionality by protecting the pool’s surface from waterline staining. Coping, which is the material used to cap the pool’s edge, is then installed, providing a polished, finished look and a comfortable surface to sit or walk on around the pool.

5. Plumbing and Electrical Setup

Next, we complete the plumbing and electrical setup. This involves connecting all the necessary lines for water circulation, filtration, and heating systems, as well as installing the pool’s lighting and any other electrical features. Our skilled technicians ensure that everything is properly connected and tested for safety and efficiency.

6. Interior Finish Application

With the structural and functional elements in place, it’s time to apply the interior finish of your pool. This finish not only affects the appearance of your pool but also its durability and feel. The pebble finish is carefully applied and then cured, giving your pool its final, beautiful appearance.

7. Filling and Balancing

The final step in the installation process is filling your pool with water. As the pool fills, our team will start up the filtration system and begin the process of balancing the water chemistry to ensure it’s safe and ready for swimming. We’ll also provide you with guidance on maintaining your pool’s water quality moving forward.

8. Final Inspection and Walkthrough

Before we hand over the keys to your new backyard oasis, we’ll conduct a thorough final inspection to ensure everything meets our high standards and your expectations. We’ll also walk you through the operation of your pool’s systems, provide maintenance tips, and answer any questions you may have.

9. Enjoy Your New Pool!

With everything in place, your pool is now ready for you to enjoy. Whether you’re hosting a pool party, relaxing after a long day, or simply taking a refreshing swim, your new pool is sure to bring years of joy and relaxation to your home.
